John Clare Obituary Fenwick ON, Founder of Clare’s Cycle & Sports, Passes Away at 91

John Clare, the visionary founder of Clare’s Cycle & Sports Ltd, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the age of 91. His passing marks the end of an era for the motorcycle community, which has lost a true pioneer, entrepreneur, racer, and legend.

John Clare founded Clare’s Cycle & Sports in 1955, later expanding into Clare’s Harley-Davidson in the 1970s. Over the decades, he built more than just a business—he cultivated a legacy of passion for motorcycles and a deep-rooted connection with the riding community. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Clare’s Cycle & Sports, a milestone John was able to witness and celebrate.

He was more than a businessman; he was a mentor, a leader, and a friend to many. His philosophy in life was simple yet profound: “Work hard, but don’t forget to have some fun along the way—and ride your bike.”

The news of John’s passing has deeply affected those who knew him. Brian Jamieson paid tribute to him, writing:
“Very sad to hear of the passing of John Clare of Clare’s Cycle & Sports Ltd… a founding member of the Welland County Motorcycle Club & Speedway and a great member of the motorcycling community… R.I.P. John.”

His impact on the Niagara region and the broader motorcycle world will never be forgotten.
